Academic Orientation: Classes will be canceled without notice, it will be extremely difficult to get course materials.
Tea time. We were given ANOTHER crafted bag, a shirt, a pen, notebook.
Safety Orientation: Don’t get molested, contact us if you are in a terrorist attack, field trips postponed due to bandh (city-wide shutdown).
Went on a walk with a couple of girls. We walked in the direction where a lot of construction is going on. The people working on the projects live in tents and concrete structures like the ones I’ve seen elsewhere in the city. We started waving to the kids and they enthusiatically waved back, calling out “Hi!!!” A group stopped and they posed for pictures. They were very excited to see the results on the display screen. So much inequality. Sigh.

We then went into the center part of campus where there is a square with food stands, the bookstore, a HP counter, an ATM, etc. They were having another meeting in support of the Telangana state under the tent. They sang the entire time we were there. Earlier in the day a group of about thirty people marched down the main road of the campus chanting and playing drums to further the cause. It’s definitely an exciting time to be in Hyderabad.

There are opportunities to teach kids English which I would be interested in doing! There are also a bunch of non-credit courses in meditation, yoga (one to become a certified instructor!), sitar, Kathak (dance), tabla (percussion), and Hindustani vocal. I’d be interested in all of these classes so I don’t know how I am going to organize my schedule. We pick classes tomorrow. I’m looking at ecological anthropology, Hindi, Indian philosophy, and Indian society. Apparently the classes started two weeks ago! I’m going to be very lost……

This is where they live.
